Bay Ridge condos

Drawing on a Long Heritage

Proving that people have always known a good thing when they see it, Door County has been inhabited for at least 10,000 years, beginning, of course, with Native Americans – primarily the Potawatomi tribe.

Our area was explored by the French in the 1600s, claimed by the British in the 1700s and then, after the Revolutionary War, became part the United States in 1783. Door County was established in 1851, three years after Wisconsin attained statehood.

Our own village, Sister Bay, was founded in 1857, and it’s been exploding in population ever since. OK, so in reality the year-round resident count isn’t even close to 1,000. But we like it that way – big enough to have pretty much everything you need but wrapped up in small-town friendliness.

Turn right onto Highway 42 after leaving Bay Ridge and you’re almost immediately at the Ephraim village limits, with the village proper a few miles beyond and down the hill. No one has to tell you that Ephraim is steeped in history; you only need to look at the buildings, many dating to the 19th century.

Smack-dab in the middle of all this is Bay Ridge. Originally a development of the owners of Bay Ridge Golf Course, Bay Ridge Condos has for many years been independently owned by our residents and self-governed by an elected board of directors.

We’ve been at it for quite a while and think we have learned a thing or two along the way about the rhythm of Door County life.
